HYDROPHONES

We offer a host of carefully chosen, full range of hydrophones for the measurement of pressure in ultrasound fields. These devices can be used to measure the acoustics parameters required to meet the latest regulatory requirements needed for IEC62127-1, NEMA UD2 or FDA 510(k) submissions.  Our offerings include Underwater, Needle, Membrane,  Fibre-Optic Hydrophones , Cavitation Sensor and Hydrophone Booster Amplifier.

PRODUCT portfolio

Underwater Piston Hydrophone

A circular plane piston, immersion hydrophone for measurements in the frequency range 100kHz to 1MHz. Comprising a four-layer laminate of 50 micron PVdF, the ML4X50 provides flat, broadband sensitivity and directivity patterns that display exceptional correlation with circular plane piston theoretical modelling.

Sensor Material: four layers of 50 micron thick gold PVdF film

Sensor Dimension:25 mm diameterTermination:5 m RG58

Co-axial Cable with 50 Ω BNC as standard but others avail

Needle Hydrophones

Our high-performance Needle Hydrophone Systems on offer consists of a range of interchangeable PVdF needle hydrophone probes, a submersible wide-band amplifier and a DC coupler.

The needle probes are available in a range of diameters from 0.04mm to 4mm, with film thickness ranging from 9 µm to 28 µm. Custom versions of hydrophones are available, such as right angle or side facing versions. The submersible preamplifier and DC coupler are required for all systems.

Membrane Hydrophones

Differential Membrane - 0.4 mm , 2 mm

Signal Amplifers. The Differential Membrane Hydrophone model is suited to the most demanding, wide bandwidth measurements situations but requires water with very low conductivity.  The UT model of Membrane Hydrophone is the product of choice for broad bandwidth measurements where water quality cannot be guaranteed.

Fibre-Optic Hydrophones

Output Impedance:50 ohm terminated system

Typical Probe Sensitivity: tapered sensor 100mV/MPa at 3MHz

Sensitivity Tolerance: Sensitivity variation between individual probes is ~ +/-3dB

Usable Frequency range:250kHz to 50MHz (may require calibration for some frequency ranges)

Dynamic range:10kPa to 15MPa. Note the system has been tested in a field in excess of 700Wcm-2 with no damage

Cavitation Sensor

Sensor material Polyvinyl difluoride (PVdF)

Active element diameter: 4 to 60 mm

Typical bandwidth:  50 to 120% of centre frequency

Nominal centre frequency: 3 to 15 MHz

Focus type : Spherical (point), Cylindrical (line) or unfocussed

Focal length: 10 to 300 mm

Case material : 316L Stainless steel or MRI/CT compatible polymer

Termination 1.5m RG58 50 W Co-axial Cable as standard but other options available on request

Hydrophone Booster Amplifier

Voltage Gain:25dB minimum

Bandwidth:50kHz to 125MHz +/-1.0dB

Maximum Output Level:29dBm for 1dB compression (18.1V pk – pk into 50Ω load)

Input Impedance: Nominal 50Ω

Output Impedance: Nominal 50Ω (VSWR 2:1)

Output Noise Level: Typically 70µV pk – pk (bandwidth 125MHz)
